Take a walk down memory lane as we explore the history and how-to’s behind this timeless treat – starting with its origin story. The origins of Buckeye candy can be traced back to Ohio in the mid-1800s, when settlers brought their most treasured recipes with them from all over Europe.
One such recipe was for “buckeyes” - small peanut butter balls made from ground peanuts mixed with molasses or honey and formed into patties. During the Great Depression, these humble treats were given new life when they were dipped in chocolate, creating what we now know as classic Buckeye.
